G.L.A.S. Enhanced Glock 34

Description

First off, I'm no Glock fan. So why are we looking at a Glock? Well the Glock is the conclusion I've come to when my parameters are simply to provide a general issue side-arm. Lots of guns could easily fill this purpose and certainly there was no reason to reinvent the wheel here and really, Glock is going to be somewhere near the top of any list of this sort unless the requirements somehow rule it out for lacking specific features. I don't have that problem because rather than a bunch of complicated requirements for my side-arm, all I want is something anyone can easily use, and as always, it has to be tough as nails. The new question becomes, why is the Glock so widely issued to state and government law enforcement and why is it so well represented in the shooting sports? It's easy for anyone to use and has decades of duty proving that it is reliable and tough. It's also very well supported and actually, fairly inexpensive. Sounds like just what I was looking for.

Do other guns also fit this description while also being American made? Yes. The Smith and Wesson M&P or 1911 come to mind first, but at the end of the day, I have nothing against anyone who makes a quality product regardless of who they are. The Glock is simple and except for the mag release (which isn't difficult to overcome), works fine for lefties or in the support hand.

Next, there is this issue of dealing with tight spaces, like vehicles or cockpits where a "PDW" might come in handy. I'm not sure it would (I'd still rather have a real gun), but add select fire and 33 round magazines and suddenly, you've got your PDW or a pretty significant hand full of fire power in a very small package. Competent users coupled with a machine pistol can be very effective.

That brings me to the choice to continue issuing the 9mm. I'd rather be carrying a .45, plain and simple. Normally I'd take more power over more bullets but there is one catch. Just like the 5.56, FMJ 9mm is useless for making bad guys stop breathing. My issued Glock comes with ammunition designed to perform its one and only function in life, killing shit - ie hollow points. We're talking about war here, not defensive pistol shooting, so for that reason, I think that the higher magazine capacity makes more sense. You will not be defending yourself against 2 or 3 people in your living room, you may find yourself facing unknown numbers of people who mostly want to kill you, not steal your TV. The Glock is ready to go, from the people who make them, with 33rd magazines to fill a role they already understood - machine pistols with maximum magazine capacity. Watch the Glock shooters use machine pistols the way they were meant to be used and you will see how effective they can be.

Of course, nothing "stock" will suit me. G.L.A.S. buys a couple hundred crates of G34s and then starts workin em up. Probably some internal work in the trigger area (and converting some to select fire) but mostly some slight modifications to the frame as you see here. Of course a suppressor is practically mandatory over at G.L.A.S. so the gun will be optimized for 147gr subsonic 9mm loads, suppressor built, barrels prepped, the usual.

Line art done in Ai CS3, colors in Ps CS3, fully loaded version coming soon.
